One year, after notifying a client that sunbiz.org did not reflect his filing of his Florida Annual Report, I received an email that said nothing more than this: “WOW! You really care!”
In October, 1994, I began my business with this very goal in mind—to convey to each client their value— My belief is that my clients are sent to me for a reason.
After graduating from LSU in Shreveport in 1979, I began my career with a large local firm in Shreveport, LA. From this firm, I received excellent and extensive training in what it takes to accomplish that goal—to strive to always anticipate the needs of the client, to assist in improving their businesses, and, of course, to comply with the tax laws. In addition, I worked in MANY industries with complex tax and accounting issues.
A local firm moved me to Jacksonville, FL in August 1987. In May 1988, I went to work with a large local firm. Having had extensive experience in both tax and retirement plan areas, I became manager of the Employee Benefits Department, managing the compliance and administration of over 200 retirement plans. Yet, I continued to be involved with services within the tax department of that firm.
Having operated as a sole practitioner from October 1994 through September 2003, a fellow CPA and I joined forces and operated as a partnership from October 2003 through December 2005. In 2006, D.K. Briery, CPA, PLC was formed and I again branched out on my own.
Today, our staff consists of a para-professional, Kristen Zimmerman; an office manager and tax preparer, Donna Swenson; and various consultants that work on an “as-needed basis”.
